Earlier this month, I travelled to an engagement negotiation in rural Vientiane District. This was my first road trip adventure since I arrived. Travelling in the back of a pick up truck with 18 others makes for an entertaining trip. I particularly enjoyed the continuous flow of snack foods including freshly made banana chips, roasted pumpkin seeds, and a coconut treat purchased from road side vendors that come to the side of the pick up truck when you pull to the side of the road. (Drive through service at its finest!)
In the pictures above we are crossing the river by ferry, as there is no bridge at this point in the river.
In early August, the country experienced severe flooding and so the roads remain in poor condition. At one point all the men riding in the back of the truck had to jump out, in order for the truck not to get stuck.

Ah Wendy, you are delighting me with your adventures. Just when I think I'm feeling quite stable and "settling down"-y in nature .... you kind of stir me up, like a fire's embers get stirred :)
