Buggies or Tuk Tuks

Horse and buggies or tuk tuks
Maple trees or palm trees
Wheat fields or rice fields
Low Germany or Thai
Strawberries or papaya
Mashed potatos and gravy or sticky rice and sauce
Lawn chairs or woven mats.

The two are miles apart,
And yet not so far.

Children ride by on bikes laughing freely
Babies smile and cry
Old people ensure all are fed
Stories entertain
Love is shared.

(Inspired by passing scenery from the train window on route from Bangkok to the Lao border and images from summer travels in Ontario, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana.)

I am really enjoying your poetry!
I had a similar experience when driving through some grass fields in Africa. I eerily felt like I was in Alberta!
