The entrance to an old movie theatre in downtown Vientiane serves as a "fast food restaurant", serving up delicious rice soup, iced coffee and a variety of other local dishes.
What were the favourite movies to come and watch in Vientiane prior to 1975? What will be the future destiny of this building located in a prime real estate area of the city? For today, it makes the perfect location for vendors to daily set up their "restaurant".
When I first arrived in Laos back in 2008 my host family had stopped here one morning for a late breakfast. I had not been back since, but decided an overcast Saturday morning was the perfect time to return for rice soup.

The rice soup was served with pork and green onions, and then any number
of extras can be added. I chose to add a squeeze of lime, ginger and
just a dab of chili peppers.

And I'm discovering, a Saturday morning is just not complete without a cup of iced coffee.

If you are ever in Vientiane, I'd encourage you to check it out, but don't wait too long or it just might not be there anymore.
