Bridges

How many bridges do you cross in the course of your daily travels?  With the rainy season fast approaching my appreciation for bridges is heightened.  In order to travel to the MCC project office, there continue to be two rivers that lack finished bridges.  Significant progress has been made during the past dry season; however, they are still not finished.

Preparing to enter the river

Temporary bridge for motorbikes and people
Army Truck Ferry Service for high water level days
Still some work to be done

River Jam

Crossing by moto can be challenging

The bridge in the background is expected to be finished by the end of the month.  Is this realistic?  We will have to wait and see.

Ngiep River remains without a vehicle bridge

The Ngiep River remains without a vehicle bridge.  A suspension bridge provides easy crossing for people, motorbikes and hand tractors; however, vehicles need to ford the river.  MCC staff and partners regularly cross this river to work in two villages.

The presence of bridges in our daily travels, is truly a blessing and one which we so easily take for granted.  This past week was the first time I crossed the newly finished bridge in the Tha Thom District Centre.  The first time across was a significant moment; however, after several times across it throughout the week, it quickly became normal.
